E. Darlene Matheny, 93, of Mexico, Missouri, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri. Graveside services will be held at Center Grove Cemetery in Westboro, Missouri.
Darlene was born Jan. 4, 1924, in Blanchard, Iowa, the daughter of Fred E. and Mae Bell (Hill) Beck. She graduated from Westboro, Mo. High School and then attended Northwest Missouri State University.
On March 26, 1945, in Westboro, she married Robert Matheny. He preceded her in death in May 1995.
Mrs. Matheny was a housewife and a school teacher. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and was always visiting others. She loved her grandchildren dearly and they would travel several states away to visit with her.
Darlene moved from Kansas City to Mexico in 2010. While there, she attended the Mexico United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan (Rick) Tremblay of Mexico; one son, David (Teri) Matheny of Hutto, Texas; six grandchildren, Bradley (Sadonya) Thomas of Nixa, Billie (Andy) Koester of Ankeny, Iowa, Dillion Matheny of Arizona, Trevor (Ebru) Matheny of Arizona, Gunar (Kerri) Matheny of Oklahoma, and Chad Tremblay of Mexico; many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Robert, Darlene was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Ebert; and one grandson, Jeremy Tremblay.
