Tuesday was the 50th annual Blue Jay Relays at the Rock Port track. The event was bigger than usual with a fun-filled celebration of past record holders, as well as watching the young athletes run, jump and soar to new heights and records. The first Blue Jay Relays were held at the Rock Port City Park in 1966. Now at a new location, the event is comprised of a huge group of athletes from all over Northwest Missouri competing for that coveted gold medal. Though chilly, the sky was sunny and bright, making it a wonderful day for a track meet and celebratory atmosphere. Some of the past record holders of the relays honored at the event included Richard Burke, Alan Lininger, Chris Chamberlain, Malissa Groff Linthicum, Bob Barnhart, Lisa Holley Thomsen, and Gretchen Dikkut. Be sure to read next week’s article with a full list of honorees, as well as the results from the 50th annual event!
