The Fairfax High School Class of 2017 – the 121st graduating class – received diplomas in a commencement ceremony Sunday, May 7, 2017. Graduating seniors included Michael Baker, Goldie Barnes, Audrae Bates, Alyssa Beck, Alex Carroll, Brody Cooper, Gage Crowley, Alyssa Garrison, Jamie Lansdown, Armando Mendoza, Caitlyn O’Riley, Mason Straub, and Dakota Allen.
The students entered the gym to “Pomp and Circumstance” performed by the Fairfax R-3 band. Superintendent Michael Garrett welcomed all in attendance. Senior Alyssa Garrison gave the invocation and Marisa Hedlund recognized the top five seniors: Brody Cooper, Dakota Allen, Alyssa Garrison, Goldie Barnes, and Mason Straub. Valedictorian Brody Cooper gave a speech.
Principal Dustin Barnes presented the eighth grade graduates: Cayla Brown, Kaden Cooper, Nicholas Hardisty, Ian Hedlund, Cierra Irvine, Cole Miller, Gena Mitchell, and Luke Roberson. Salutatorian Dakota Allen gave his speech. A video montage of senior remembrances was presented by Lauren Clark. Principal Barnes presented the senior class and Board of Education President Josh Oswald presented the seniors with their diplomas. Goldie Barnes gave the benediction. The recessional was to “The Call” by Regina Spektor, the class song. Escorts were Tacy Mitchell and Shane Wallace. Attendants were Mickayla Bowling, Leslie Bradley, Andrew Gibbons, and Conner Marshall.
The class flower was Calla Lily. The class colors were light blue, silver, and black. The class motto was “Together, we have experienced life. Separately, we will pursue our dreams. Forever, our memories will remain.” The class quote was “Started from the bottom, now we’re here.” by Aubrey ‘Drake’ Graham. The class sponsor was Mr. Christian Lovely.
