The commencement ceremony for the Tarkio High School Class of 2017 was held Friday evening, May 12, in the THS Gym. Nine seniors received their diplomas, including: Breanna Mae Barnett, Noah Tyler Brooks, Karlly Nadean Eyman, Haley Renae Hall, Chase Nikole Henson, Daw­son Lee Joesting, Shel­by Ann McCartney, Madelyn Josephine Quimby, and Kris­tofer Lee Riley. Top five seniors were: valedictorian – Breanna Barnett; salu­tatorian – Shelby McCartney; third – Haley Hall; fourth – Noah Brooks; and fifth – Karlly Eyman.
The students walked into the gym with the Tarkio High School band playing “Pomp & Circumstance.” Tarkio High School Principal Carrie Livengood led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. Tarkio R-I new Superintendent Karma Coleman welcomed all in attendance and introduced guest speaker Heidi Hale, THS English teacher. A parent dedication slideshow was presented and then the Tarkio High School Chorus sang “I Hope You Dance.” Breanna Barnett gave the valedictorian speech, followed by Shelby Mc­Cartney giving the sa­lutatorian speech. Mrs. Livengood presented the class and Tarkio R-I School Board President Steve Klute presented the diplomas. Mrs. Livengood led everyone in the Pledge to the School Flag and the students filed out of the gym to their class song, “Figure Me Out” by Summer Set. Junior escorts were Shae DeRosier and Bella Hurst.
The senior class motto was “Chase your dreams, but always know the road that’ll lead you home again.” Class colors were yellow, gray, and turquoise. The class flower was yellow gerber daisy. Senior class officers were: President – Shelby McCartney; Vice-President – Haley Hall; Secretary – Karlly Eyman; Treasurer – Breanna Bar­nett; and Student Council Representatives – Dawson Joesting and Chase Henson. Senior National Honor Society members were Shelby McCartney, Breanna Barnett, Haley Hall, Karlly Eyman, and Chase Henson. Class sponsors were Amy Haddock and Cheyenne McClain.

Tarkio seniors and underclassmen were honored for academic excellence at an awards’ assembly held Friday, May 12, 2017, in the THS Gym. During the assembly, the Tarkio High School seniors received scholarships for future college endeavors and recognitions for achievements made in their classes this school year (2016-17). Other students also received honors for their achievements throughout the year.
Members of the Class of 2017 walked into the gym and then everyone said the Pledge of Allegiance. THS Counselor Tracy Cooper welcomed everyone in attendance and then the award presentations began. The following is a list of honorees and the awards presented:

Everyone said the Pledge to Tarkio High School. As the seniors exited the gym, they stacked their seats, thus trying to thwart the juniors’ customary “changing of the seats.” Each grade moved up a row signifying their higher grade level and then the assembly ended.
