For the last 17 years, Community Hospital-Fairfax (CH-F) and Dr. Aron and Joanna Burke and the staff of the Tarkio Family Practice and Rock Port Family Medicine clinics have worked hand in hand to serve the healthcare needs of the community. Dr. Burke has served as the Chief of Staff at CH-F for many of those years while attending to the acute, obstetrical and surgical needs of the practice at the hospital.
On July 1, 2017, the long-term relationship between Dr. Burke, Joanna, a pediatric nurse practitioner, and the hospital will become a formal partnership as the two organizations merge. Dr. Burke and Joanna will remain in practice while Dr. Burke also serves as Chief Medical Officer at CH-F. The administration of the Tarkio and Rock Port clinics will be transferred to the hospital allowing Dr. Burke and Joanna more time to focus on patient care.
“We rely on and value Dr. Burke, Joanna and their team and believe that our coming together will provide significant benefits to our patients and to our community,” Roger Steinkruger, CEO, explains. “While we continue to work on the details of the merger and how we might allocate resources, we are confident that by working together we can increase both access and efficiency in the way that healthcare is provided for our community.”
Patients visiting the Rock Port and Tarkio clinics will not likely notice any immediate changes including the familiar faces of the staff at the clinics. Over time, Community Hospital-Fairfax will work with the entire team of CH-F physicians and advance practice nurses to extend access in all communities. The hospital is hopeful to include primary care clinic hours in Fairfax, in addition to the clinics already owned by CH-F in Burlington Junction, Mound City and Oregon.
“The last 17 years have been extremely rewarding for Joanna and myself as we have been in private practice. We are looking forward to decreasing the time-consuming duties that come with running a business so we can focus more on patient care,” commented Dr. Burke. “The partnership with the hospital affords us the opportunity to do what we do best, which is take care of patients.”
Board President Bob Jackson was on hand to celebrate the announcement at the hospital on May 22, 2017.
“Our goal as a board is to ensure accessibility and longevity of healthcare in our community. We believe that this partnership meets both objectives. We are excited for what we might achieve working together.”
Community members are encouraged to reach out to the hospital at 660-686-2211 or through e-mail at AnnS@FairfaxMed.com with questions about the merger.
