The Rock Port Park Board met Thursday, June 1, 2017, at the Rock Port City Park. Members present were Shauna Farmer, Jill Lager, Lisa Farmer, Sheena Roup, Tawni Ellis, Katey Kroeger, and Tisha Jackson. Members absent were Greg Young and Jim Skillen. Also present were Jennifer Casey, Patricia Walker, City Clerk Ashtin Paris and Alderman Todd Stevens.
Park Board President Lisa Farmer called the meeting to order.
Board members voted to approve the meeting agenda.
Jennifer Burke Casey presented a request to instruct water aerobics during adult swim. Classes will begin June 19 and will be held Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Cost will be $5 per class. All participants must have a season pass or pay the $3 daily admission fee in addition to the class cost. Participants will need to bring a pool noodle to class. Board members voted to authorize Jennifer Burke Casey to instruct water aerobics during adult swim and to approve the water aerobics schedule and fees.
Following Jennifer Casey’s presentation, Patricia Walker requested to speak to the park board. She requested the park board consider a senior discount for pool passes.
Board members voted to offer a 10% senior citizen discount on season pool passes for ages 65 and over.
The minutes from the May 8, 2017, meeting were approved, as well as the May 2017 financials.
The scheduled Movie Night in the Park was postponed due to a public performance license needing to be obtained. The cost to show one movie to 200 people or less is $275. Tisha Jackson will attend the tourism board meeting to request the tourism board’s help sponsoring Movie Nights in the Park.
Greg Young was not present to give an update on the tennis court and pickleball court. Clerk Paris will order two pickleball sets to be kept in the concession stand and checked out.
The pool speaker is not working. Tawni will take a look at it after the meeting. Members discussed bluetooth speakers to place around the pool area.
Shauna Farmer reported that 91 pool passes have been sold so far. Shauna also reported that new entrance doors for the bathhouse will be needed next year.
The pool will close at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, June 5 for the Rock Port Marlins’ swim meet.
Board members voted to provide pool passes to Swim Coach Libby Weber and Assistant Swim Coach Becky Meyerkorth.
Discussion was held on parents leaving children unattended in the baby pool. A sign will be ordered and installed that reads as follows: “Do not leave child(ren) unattended in baby pool.”
July 4th was discussed. Kelly Daugherty will help put up the flags for the holiday.
Board members voted to advertise that fireworks are not allowed in the City Park.
A park cleanup day needs to be scheduled before the 4th of July.
Pool hours for the 4th of July will be 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
The next meeting will be held Thursday, June 22, 2017, at 7 p.m. at the City Park.
Clerk Paris presented the March 2016 – March 2017 free utility services report for the Park Board.
Clerk Paris submitted Supt. Hale’s request for the Park Board to obtain bids for trimming and pruning the trees at the park. Bids will be obtained.
