Hello Blue Jay Nation!
It is hard to believe that we are in the middle of July, and the start of the 2017-18 school year is right around the corner.  I am writing to inform our patrons of the change in the district Meal Charge Policy – 5550.  With recommendations and directive from the FDA, the Rock Port Board of Education adopted an updated 5550- Meal Charge policy for the start of the school year.
The purpose of this policy is to maintain consistent meal account procedures throughout the school district.  Unpaid charges place a financial strain on district finances.  To that end, this policy will help ensure that all students have a healthy meal, that no child goes hungry, and that all students will be treated with dignity and confidentiality in the service line regarding meal accounts. This policy will support positive and clear communications among administration, teachers, students and parents/guardians, encourage parents/guardians to assume the responsibility of meal payments to promote self-responsibility of the student, and this policy will also help establish a consistent practice regarding charges and collection of charges.
A copy of the policy will be handed out at registration to all students/parents along with Free and Reduced Lunch forms.  You can also review the policy on the Rock Port R-II website www.rockport.k12.mo.us.  If you have any questions please email me at cwalker@rockport.k12.mo.us or call (660) 744-6298.
We look forward to another outstanding school year filled with many student accomplishments and celebrations.
Go Big Blue
Mr. Craig Walker, Superintendent of Schools
