Kevin and Nancy Hurst were chosen as the Grand Marshals of the 2017 Atchison County Fair Parade. They had some help with the candy tossing from grandchildren: front seated, Wendy and Finn Hurst, and back, Tucker and Landry Hurst.
Kevin and Nancy Hurst met at the University of Missouri at Columbia and married in 1979. They are the parents of four boys – Brooks, Brett, Dallas, and Taylor. They are also the grandparents of Finnley, Tucker, Wendy, Landry, Jo, and Elliott. They farm with 3 generations of their family around the Tarkio, Mo., area.
Kevin is a past member of the Atchison County Fair Board and was president of that board for more years than he would like to admit. He is a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Tarkio, a member of the Soil and Water Conservation Board, member of the Tarkio Board of Public Works board, and The Missouri Corn Growers Association where he was past president. He was active for many years with his boys raising show cattle and pigs for FFA SAE projects. All 4 of his boys received their national FFA degree.
Nancy Hurst was a board member and past president of Honey Tree Nursery School in Tarkio; member and past president of the Community Hospital Fairfax Board of Directors; and past member of the Board of Trustees for the First Baptist Church Tarkio. Nancy is currently an active member of the Tarkio Renewal Board. For many years she was the leader of Farmers City 4H Club and was also leader of the Clover Kid program for Farmers City when it began.
Kevin and Nancy enjoy visiting the fair every year to see the agriculture way of life continued in our county and to see the next generation become active in agriculture.
