Betty Mae Carter, age 86, Fairfax, Missouri, died July 27, 2017, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri. Betty was born on May 14, 1931, in Rock Port, Missouri, to Archie and Marie (Garner) Edwards.
Betty attended school in Rock Port and Fairfax. She worked at the Blue Bell Café in Fairfax. On July 23, 1960, she married Fred McMahon Carter and they made their home on the farm east of Fairfax.
Betty enjoyed living on the farm and gardening. She was an amazing cook. Betty also enjoyed puzzles, crocheting, and collecting salt and pepper shakers. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; sister, Mary Hodde; and an infant brother, John. Betty is survived by one daughter, Carol and husband, Joe Farley, of Woodbine, Iowa; two sons, Jim Carter and John Carter and wife, Nikki, of Maryville, Missouri; grandchildren, Brice Farley, Sioux City, Iowa, Briana Farley, Woodbine, and Jimmy and Nate Carter, both of Maryville; great-grandchildren, Cayleigh Jo White and Carson Kerger of Woodbine; sisters, Ruby and husband, Ron Worley, and Frances Miller, both of St. Joseph, Missouri; one brother, Jim Edwards and wife, Phyllis, of Platte City, Missouri; and nieces, nephews, and a host of other friends and loved ones.
Graveside services and inurnment will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at the Walkup Grove Cemetery, Fairfax. Pastor Andy Braams will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Schooler Funeral Home in Fairfax.
