A funeral service for E. Gene Broermann was held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 3, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Westboro, Missouri. Interment was held at St. John’s Cemetery. Military rites were under the auspices of Allen-Schiffern American Legion Post #199, Tarkio. Reverend Franz Brandenburg officiated. Services were under the direction of Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio.
Gene, the son of William Henry and Therese Caroline (Kemper) Broermann, was born on October 29, 1927, in Westboro. He attended Yale Country School, Westboro, through the 8th grade and graduated from Tarkio High School, Tarkio, Missouri, in 1945. Following graduation, Gene entered the United States Army and served his country during World War II, in the Philippines. He received his honorable discharge in 1947.
Gene married Mary Louise Dragoo, the love of his life and the only woman he ever dated, on August 29, 1946, in Kansas. They became the parents of Richard, Nancy, Katherine and David and farmed and made their home on the family farm in the St. John’s Lutheran Church community, Westboro. As well as the livestock and grain operation, Gene owned and operated Broermann Trucking, moving agricultural products for many farmers in the area. He retired in 1991. During his retirement years, he and Mary Lou took great pleasure in caring for their great-grandchildren.
Gene was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and in many other capacities. He was a faithful, sweet, good man who led a quiet life and worked with his hands. Gene also was a sports’ enthusiast and especially enjoyed baseball and football. He loved watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participate in various sports, 4-H, and other activities. He was a rock for his children and the best Papa ever. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and by example passed on a Godly legacy to his family for which they are eternally grateful. Gene passed away Monday, July 31, 2017, at Community Hospital-Fairfax, at the age of 89 years.
