Husband and wife, Mike and Dana Tracy, are excited to announce their business celebration of the MDT Woodworks, LLC in Fairfax, Mo., which will offer custom hand-crafted furniture and home decor. Their DIY creation studio will provide the opportunity for hands-on classes that include designing custom wood signs and home decor, as well as staining and chalk paint techniques.
The couple decided to become entrepreneurs because they wanted to control their own destiny, instead of continuing to use all their energy for corporate America. Once the two decided to go into business for themselves, MDT Woodworks, LLC was born.
The couple want their customers to know that they are trying to utilize all local resources for their business and seeking out like-minded businesses to supply their business. “It is important to note that we work very hard to not use wood from places like Lowes, Home Depot, etc. to build our furniture. Using wood that is not properly dried in a kiln, like many furniture builders do now-a-days, will warp and bend with time. We pride ourselves in offering high quality furniture and home decor that will last for many generations,” they say.
The path to success has not been simple, but they have words of wisdom for other would-be entrepreneurs: “Don’t Give Up. If you have something you are passionate about and feel in your gut you are supposed to do, JUMP. Go for it. The last thing you want to do is look back years later and wish you had given it a shot.” They share that their biggest struggle while opening their business was the commute from Kansas City to Fairfax every day for 3 months straight. They are very thankful to have relocated and now have only a 2 minute drive.
The couple heard about Northwest Missouri Enterprise Facilitation from Dana’s parents, Danny & Alice Kemerling. Dana says, “Keli Morris and Northwest Enterprise Facilitation have been a great resource as well as a great support system in helping start our business in Fairfax.” These entrepreneurs envision having a more global presence in the wholesale industry within the next 5 years, and taking the longer view, hope to offer sustainable employment for 10-15 employees in the next 10 years.
MDT Woodworks will hold a business ribbon cutting on Friday, August 11, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. and a grand opening celebration on Saturday, August 12, 2017, from, 1 – 5 p.m. The business is located at 104 E Main Street, Fairfax, MO 64446.
