Melvin Lee Strough, 87, of Skidmore, Missouri, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017, on his family farm.
Melvin was born on February 9, 1930, in Skidmore, Missouri, to Paul and Mamie (Rowlett) Strough. He attended Mt. Hope Country School and graduated from Quitman High School in 1948. He lived all of his life in the area.
Melvin served his country in the United States Navy from 1951-1955. On October 17, 1959, he married Joyce Rose Lewis. The two resided together on their family farm, where they raised their two daughters and two of their granddaughters.
Melvin was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a hardworking and generous man, and he actively worked on his farm until his last day.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Jerrie Strough; and his siblings, Ray Strough, Pauline Raines, Nellie Linnegar, Neva Wynn, Julia Baker, and Fred Strough.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Strough; his daughters Gail Stoner, St. Joseph, Missouri, Tayne (Tyler) Fast, Burlington Junction, Missouri, and Tauni (Sheldon) Saxton, Maryville, Missouri; his grandchildren, Ciera (Marko) Ellison, St. Joseph, Missouri, and Cody Stoner, Fairfax, Missouri; nine great-grandchildren and a host of other friends and loved ones.
Memorial services were held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, August 12, 2017, at the Fairfax Baptist Church, Fairfax.  Inurnment was at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 19, 2017, in the English Grove Cemetery, Fairfax.  Military rites were provided by the Story-Hardin American Legion Post #164, Craig, Missouri.
Memorial may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee  38105.  Arrangements were under the direction of the Schooler Funeral Home Fairfax/Craig.
