Two family members were injured in a two-vehicle accident when their vehicles collided at the crest of a hill on 200th Street Wednesday, August 9, 2017. The accident occurred at 7:50 a.m. one-fourth mile west of Hwy. Y, approximately three miles northeast of Rock Port. A 2006 Toyota Corolla, driven by Rebekah L. Lucas, age 16, of rural Rock Port, was westbound and a 2002 GMC 2500, driven by her brother, Benjamin M. Lucas, age 18, of rural Rock Port was eastbound on 200th Street when the vehicles collided on a hillcrest. The Toyota finally came to rest facing southwest off the north side of the roadway and the GMC came to a controlled stop, facing east, off the south side of the roadway.
Rebekah, who was wearing a seat belt, received moderate injuries and was transported by a private party to Community Hospital-Fairfax. Benjamin, who was not wearing a seat belt, did not report any injuries at the scene. The Toyota received extensive damage, the GMC received moderate damage, and both were towed from the scene by a private party. The accident was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper K.L. Ebersold, who was assisted by the Atchison County Sheriff’s Department and the Atchison-Holt Ambulance Service.
