New teachers at Fairfax R-3 include, from left to right, Lauren Clark, Kelly Morris, Zachary Kellner, Melanie Lucas, and Sami Stadel.
Fairfax R-3 students were greeted by a handful of new teachers when they began the school year last week.
One of those teachers is Samantha “Sami” Stadel. Sami will be teaching third grade and will also be the junior high assistant volleyball coach.
Hailing from Spearfish, South Dakota, Sami attended college at Black Hills State University. This will be her first teaching job.
When not teaching, Sami likes to golf or hang out with family and friends.
Another new teacher who will also be coaching is Zachary Kellner. Zachary will be coaching cross country and track, as well as teaching 7th Grade World History, 8th Grade American History, Freshman World History, Sophomore Government, Junior American History, Senior Personal Finance, and elective U.S. Sports History. Zachary attended Drury University where he was part of the cross country and track teams for four years, so he will be a great asset for the East Atchison runners.
Zachary is from Strafford, Missouri, where he comes from a family of teachers (his dad teaches history and his sister teaches English).
When not teaching, Zachary enjoys running, history, hip-hop music, movies, television, and spending time with his family (to also include his mother and younger brother).
Melanie Lucas is a new teacher with local ties as she lives in Rock Port with her family, husband Dan Lucas, son Joshua (currently in the US Navy stationed in Georgia), son Benjamin (a senior in Rock Port), and daughter Rebekah (a sophomore in Rock Port). She will be teaching Title One.
Melanie graduated from Peru State College, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. When not teaching, Melanie enjoys spending time with her family, reading, helping with Jays for Jesus, and the Green Bay Packers. A goal for her students this year is that they enjoy the love of reading because you never know where it will take you!
A very familiar face leading a group of young students this year is Lauren Clark. Though she lives in Tarkio, Lauren attended Fairfax R-3 since she was three years old, “so I feel like Fairfax is my home, too!” she said. Lauren is the daughter of Kevin and Twilla Clark. She attended Northwest Missouri State University.
This is Lauren’s first year of teaching. She will be teaching preschool in the morning and helping out with Title in the afternoons. Lauren said, “I am a third generation Fairfax teacher! My grandma, Merylan Lowrey, taught math and art here at Fairfax. My mother, Twilla Clark, is starting her 24th year teaching here at Fairfax! I feel so blessed and excited to start out my teaching career here at home!”
When not teaching, Lauren loves to read, spend time with family and friends, watch movies, and quilt!
Kelly Morris is the new English teacher at Fairfax R-3. She studied secondary education, history, at Peru State College, as well as Elementary Education.
Kelly lives in Fairfax with her husband, Billy. They have five daughters, who graduated from or are still attending Fairfax R-3.
When not teaching, Kelly enjoys spending time with her family, reading, learning new things, and being creative.
