The Missouri State Fair was held in Sedalia, Missouri, August 10-20, 2017. Atchison County Beef Exhibitors were few in number again this year, but they represented our county well. The four exhibitors from Atchison County were: Ally Demott of Rock Port FFA, Keaton Williams of Tarkio FFA, Rylee Jenkins of Lucky Clover 4-H, and Goldie Barnes of Wolverine 4-H.
The Market Heifer and Steer Show was held on Tuesday, August 15, in the Coliseum on the State Fairgrounds. Showing in Class 1 of the show was Rylee Jenkins with her market heifer, Storm. Storm weighed 1,125 and placed 7th in her class.
In Class 17, FFA Maintainer Class, Ally Demott showed her purebred Maintainer steer, Cas. Cas weighed 1,440 and placed 5th in his class. Ally also showed her crossbred steer, Dick, in Class 40. He weighed 1,310 and placed 7th in his class.
Keaton Williams showed his steer, Mark, in Class 32. Mark weighed in at 1,185 and placed 3rd in his class.
Goldie Barnes, in the last show of her career, ended well by placing 1st in Class 23 with her purebred Shorthorn Plus steer, Eddy Ball. Eddy Ball weighed in at 1,325 and was named the 2017 Missouri State Fair 4-H Grand Champion Shorthorn Plus Steer.
It was a good finish of the year for all of these exhibitors and they are to be congratulated on their hard work.
