The East Atchison and Rock Port Volleyball Teams competed in the inaugural East Atchison  Volleyball Tournament Thursday and Saturday, August 24 and 26, 2017. Thursday evening, games were played in the Tarkio High School Gym, which was filled to the brim with fans from all over cheering on the high school athletes. The Lady Wolves won five of six games against their opponents. The Lady Blue Jays won three of six games.
In their first competition, the Lady Wolves defeated the Lady Blue Jays in two sets final scores of 25-17 and 25-20. Individual EA stats include: Aces – Jaycee Graves 1, Jesse Graves 1, and Kilea Cooper 1; Kills – Cat Prater 1, Jaycee Graves 5, Kilea Cooper 3, and Leslie Bradley 5; Digs – Grace Martin 10, Jaycee Graves 3, Jesse Graves 5, Kilea Cooper 11, Leslie Bradley 7, Madison Ohrt 3, and Tawni Martin 1; Blocks – Cat Prater 1; and Assists – Madison Ohrt 10. The Lady Blue Jays were defeated by St. Joe Christian in two sets, with final scores of 20-25 for both games. In the third and final pool play of the day for the Lady Wolves, the girls went one of two against St. Joe Christian, winning the first set 25-19 and losing the second set 25-27. The Lady Blue Jays won their last match of the day winning two games against Nodaway-Holt with final scores of 25-16 and 25-21. Saturday’s games took place at Fairfax High School and at Tarkio High School. The Lady Wolves competed in Tarkio, ultimately winning the 3rd place plaque.
The Lady Wolves competed against West Nodaway in the first match up, winning two of three sets with final scores of 25-12, 5-16, and 25-7. The win put the Lady Wolves up against the Mound City Lady Panthers in their second match of the day. East Atchison lost in two sets with final scores of 14-25 and 17-25. The Lady Blue Jays played in Fairfax on Saturday, winning consolation. The Lady Blue Jays competed against Mound City, losing in two sets with final scores of 21-25 and 13-25. Aces – Abby Bradley and Abbie Hale, 2 each; Kills – Abbie Hale 4; Digs – Catyn Chamberlain 4; Blocks – Abbie Hale 1; and Assists – Kelcie Gaines 7.
The loss put the Lady Jays up against West Nodaway. Rock Port won the match in two sets with final scores of 25-17 and 25-21. Aces – Riley Vogler 3; Kills – Drue Kemerling 5; Digs – Catyn Chamberlain and Riley Vogler, 3 each; Blocks – Drue Kemerling 2; and Assists – Kelcie Gaines 7.
