The Jays traveled to Hopkins Friday, September 8, to take on the NorthWest Nodaway Muskets for their fourth game of the regular season.
The Jays kicked off to start the game. With a good defensive stand the Muskets were forced to punt the ball. Rock Port took possession on their 25 yard line. Five plays later, from the Muskets’ six yard line, quarterback Jase Hughes hit Caden Linthicum on a quick out for the first touchdown of the night. Hughes ran the two point conversion in giving the Jays the early lead of 8-0.
The Muskets brought the kick off back to mid-field and seven plays later the Muskets punted the ball and runningback Quentin Carder took the ball 63 yards for a touchdown. Hughes converted on the two point conversion, making the score 16-0.
After quick three plays, Caden Linthicum brought the ball back to Rock Port’s 36 yard line. The Jays moved the ball to the Muskets’ 30 yard line before turning it over on downs.
Rock Port’s defense held once again and with a good punt they took possession on their own 26 yard line. Two plays later wing back Brock Martin scrambled 37 yards for the third score of the night. Ryan Dewhirst caught the pass from Hughes for the two point conversion, making the score 24-0.
The Muskets would run one play before the end of the first quarter.
With another three and out the Jays were at mid-field when quarterback Jase Hughes hit Caden Linthicum on a post route, moving the ball to the seven yard line. Gavin Abbott would take Hughes’ hand off to the house and Hughes capped the drive off with the two point conversion, 32-0.
The Muskets had their best drive of the night moving the ball to the Rock Port one yard line before the defense came up with a big stand holding the Muskets out and taking over on downs.
On this drive the Jays would score two times only to be called back for penalties, before Martin would take the ball 16 yards for the touchdown. Gavin Abbott was good on the two point conversion, and the score was 40-0.
The Muskets would run three plays before bringing an end to the first half.
The Jays got the ball to start the second half. Runningback Quentin Carder would take Hughes’ hand-off out to mid-field. Wingback Brock Martin would end the game on a 21 yard run to give the Jays their fourth win of the season.
