The Atchison County Commission met Thursday, September 7, 2017. Present were: Presiding Commissioner Curt Livengood, South District Commissioner Richard Burke, North District Commissioner James Quimby, and Susette Taylor, Clerk of the Commission.
Presiding Commissioner Curt Livengood called the meeting to order.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Bills were reviewed, approved and ordered paid.
Clerk Taylor reported on information presented at a meeting hosted by Arthur J. Gallgher & Co. in regards to Consortium Bids for Missouri Affiliated Government Insurance Consortium (MAGIC). MAGIC is currently made up of eight Missouri counties and the information presented at the meeting held in Jefferson City on Wednesday, September 6, was for a total of 34 counties. Clerk Taylor attended to see if moving into a larger group with other counties would provide a lower insurance rate for Atchison County employees. The two companies that presented bids to the MAGIC Consortium were Aetna and Cox. The Commission will compare the rates to the Atchison County renewal rates with the current provider. They will be presented at the September 12 meeting of the Commission.
Prosecuting Attorney Brett Hurst was in to discuss department matters.

Monthly department reports were reviewed and approved.
Road and Bridge Supervisor Adam Meyer, was in to discuss department matters. He set dates to bid a fork lift, 2018 fuel and propane, and 2018 rock.
Additions and abatements to the tax books were approved as follows:
Real Property – August 2017 – There were no additions to the tax books. Abatements from the tax books were: 2016, $47.48; 2015, 333.62; 2014, $321.69; 2013, $50.58; 2012, $50.62; 2011, $52.40; 2010, $230.18; 2009, $229.85; 2008, $232.92; 2007, $237.06; 2006, $217.18; 2005, $455.88; 2004, $456.78; 2003, $393.33; 2002, $414.00; 2001, $156.26; 2000, $75.55; and 1999, $75.55.
Personal Property – August 2017 – Additions to the tax books: 2016, $2,906.99; and 2015, $720.77.There were no abatements from the tax books.
At 10:30 a.m. the Commission met with Randy Arnold and Linda Shelby to review the 2018 health insurance renewal.

County Maintenance Supervisor Greg Beck was in to discuss removal of dead limbs in the trees on the courthouse lawn. The Commission approved having them removed.
The Commission went out to inspect roads and visit the wind turbine site.
