Running Back Gavin Abbott sets the tone with a 43 yard run to put the Jays on top 8-0.
Defensive end Ryan Dewhirst gets the tackle for a loss. Dewhirst had 6 tackles and 2 sacks on the night.
Southwest Livingston came to Rock Port looking to upset the undefeated Rock Port Blue Jays. With a three and three record, Coach Eric Fairchild had his team ready and a game plan to run the clock as much as possible to keep the ball out of Rock Port’s hand.
SW Livingston elected to receive the ball to start the game. From the start, his plan looked to be working, as SW moved the ball from the 20 yard line to midfield before the Jays’ defense was able to get a stop and takeover on downs.
The Jays struggled on their first offensive series as quarterback Jase Hughes threw an interception giving the Wildcats possession on the 10 yard line. But the defense came through with a big punt block by Ryan Dewhirst for a safety, putting the Jays on the board.
Return man Caden Linthicum brought the ball back to the 40 yard line on the return. Quarterback Hughes set the offense before handing off to runningback Gavin Abbott who made one cut and 43 yards later added another six points. Abbott capped it off the with a two point conversion. That play opened the flood gates for Quentin Carder, Linthicum, Hughes and Abbott again to continue to score. With the clock winding down in the first half, it looked as though it was going into the third quarter with the score 40-0 and only 1:30 left in the first half.
Kicker Zach Clauson lined up for the kick-off and kicked a perfect on side kick to senior Evan Elam down the Wildcat sideline.
With time short on the clock, the Jays moved the ball down the field to the six yardline, before quarterback Jase Hughes gave the final blow with a quarterback keeper. Brock Martin’s two point conversion was good, making the final score 48-0.
