Atchison County Development Corporation (ACDC) offered a “Careers on Wheels” workshop to Atchison County freshmen. The event was held Friday, October 13, 2017, at the Rock Port City Park.
Monica Bailey, ACDC Director, introduced participants, and then the speed interviews began. Groups switched every five minutes for an hour, and then the students were given time to visit more with the representative of a business they were interested in.
Questions asked included: What education/training did you have to have to get for this job? Do you have a traditional office or is your vehicle your office? What’s the craziest thing that has ever happened to you on the job? What are the challenges about being mobile? What do you like about working in Atchison County?

Agriculture: MO Valley – Cole Ward, spray operator; Robert Curtis, truck driver
Construction: Dow Construction – Tommy Dow, owner/operator
Home Health: Community Hospital-Fairfax – Ashley Driskell, R.N./Director of Home Health
IT Sales: Midwest Data Center – Joe Matzinger and Keaton Dyche, sales engineers
Tow Truck: Double M Towing – Jody VanSickle, owner/operator
Wind: Farmers City Wind Plant – Sage Jones, Lead Tech/Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator
Law enforcement: Atchison County Sheriff’s Office – Deputy Rick Sons, Deputy Devon Sons
Utilities: Atchison-Holt Electric Cooperative – Garrett Schomburg, journeyman; Jerry Clemens, superintendent
