The East Atchison Lady Wolves Volleyball Team were named Class 1, District 16 Champions after defeating St. Joe Christian and Rock Port Wednesday, October 18, 2017, in Mound City, Missouri. The tournament, which began Monday, October 16, saw teams vying for the top spots to qualify for Sectionals, which was held Saturday, October 21, in Tarkio.

 

The Lady Wolves received a bye on Monday, so the team began District play Wednesday against St. Joe Christian. EA won the match in three sets with final scores of 25-23, 21-25, and 25-17. Individual Lady Wolves stats follow: Aces – Jaycee Graves 1, Jesse Graves 1, Leslie Bradley 2, and Madison Ohrt 1; Assists – Madison Ohrt 29; Kills – Cat Prater 5, Jaycee Graves 9, Kilea Cooper 7, Leslie Bradley 3, Lily Graves 4, Madison Ohrt 3, and Tawni Martin 4; Blocks – Jaycee Graves 2 and Madison Ohrt 1; and Digs – Cat Prater 1, Grace Martin 17, Jaycee Graves 4, Jesse Graves 1, Kilea Cooper 12, Leslie Bradley 3, Madison Ohrt 8, and Shelbey Morris 7.

 

The win put the Lady Wolves in championship play against the Rock Port Lady Blue Jays. EA won the match in two sets with final scores of 25-20 and 25-17. Individual EA stats follow: Aces – Jaycee Graves 1, Kilea Cooper 3, and Lily Graves 1; Assists – Madison Ohrt 18; Kills – Cat Prater 5, Jaycee Graves 4, Kilea Cooper 5, Lily Graves 3, Madison Ohrt 3, and Tawni Martin 4; and Digs – Grace Martin 12, Jaycee Graves 2, Kilea Cooper 8, Leslie Bradley 2, and Madison Ohrt 8. With the win, the girls were named District Champions and advanced to Sectionals, going in with a 20-10 overall record.

 

The Lady Wolves faced off with Santa Fe, Missouri, in Sectional play Saturday. EA lost the match in two games with final scores of 21-25 and 4-25. Individual Lady Wolves’ stats include: Aces – Leslie Bradley 1; Assists – Madison Ohrt 12; Kills – Cat Prater 1, Jaycee Graves 5, Kilea Cooper 4, Lily Graves 2, and Tawni Martin 2; and Digs – Grace Martin 3; Kilea Cooper 3, Leslie Bradley 1, and Lily Graves 1. The loss ended the Lady Wolves’ 2017 season with an overall record of 20-11.

 

The Rock Port Lady Jays’ varsity volleyball team faced West Nodaway in their first match of the district tournament on Monday, October 16. Rock Port won the match in two sets, 25-7 and 25-13. Top stats for the Rock Port players were: Aces – Kelcie Gaines, 5; Kills – Alivia Baucom, 6; Digs – Catyn Chamberlain, 5; Blocks – Drue Kemerling, 1; and Assists – Kelcie Gaines, 12.
Rock Port competed against Mound City in the second round of districts, Wednesday, October 18. The Lady Jays won their first set 25-14. The Lady Panthers won the second set 18-25, but Rock Port won the final set 25-16, winning the match. Top stats for the Rock Port players were: Aces – Riley Vogler 3; Kills – Alivia Baucom 6; Digs – Catyn Chamberlain 8; Blocks – Drue Kemerling 12; and Assists – Kelcie Gaines 13.

 

The Lady Blue Jays advanced to the championship round against the East Atchison Lady Wolves. The Lady Jays lost the match in two sets, 20-25 and 17-25. Top stats for the Rock Port players were: Aces – Catyn Chamberlain 1; Kills – Abbie Hale 6; Digs – Riley Vogler 7; Blocks – Drue Kemerling 3; and Assists – Kelcie Gaines 5.
