East Atchison’s Zach Garrison, left, qualified for State Cross Country with his district qualifying place of 12th and a time of 19:25.66, earned this past Saturday, October 28. He even finished with only one shoe on after his shoe came loose during the race. Pictured at right is Rock Port’s State qualifier Rebekah Lucas, who finished 13th at Districts with a time of 23:16.94. The two will compete at State on November 4.

 

Atchison County Cross Country teams competed in Class 1, District 8 Championships Saturday, October 28, 2017, in Smithville, Missouri. Two local runners qualified for State with their District finishes. East Atchison’s Zach Garrison placed 12th with a time of 19:25.66 and Rock Port’s Rebekah Lucas placed 13th with a time of 23:16.94.
Other local competitors included: East Atchison – Brianna Maxwell, 19th, 24:45.83; and Melissa Lang, 46th, 40:02.10; and Rock Port – Sophie Brumbaugh, 22nd, 25:12.03; Liven Schokenhoff, 29th, 25:52.61; Emma Pankau, 31st, 26:32.68; Harlee Pritt, 34th, 27:17.72; Lauren Kelly, 39th, 29:07.93; Gabe Minter, 20th, 21:01.51; Preston Klappenbach, 32nd, 22:58.90; and Ethan Brumbaugh, 33rd, 23:20.51.
Zach and Rebekah will compete in the State Championship at Oak Hills Golf Course in Columbia, Missouri, Saturday, November 4. The Class 1 boys’ race will begin at 9:35 a.m. and the Class 1 girls’ race will begin at 10:45 a.m. Good luck, runners!
