You might as well begin to get ready for the first official blackout in this area, even if it is not until December 14. This blackout will be a 20 minute affair and, according to daily newspapers, is to go into effect at 10 p.m. Lots of folks are in bed by that hour, but many will still be up and around their homes. Plans for the blackout in this section will depend on information received from Omaha, headquarters for the Seventh Corps area. Details will be given out later as to the exact hour, how it will be handled with respect to railroads, plants engaged in essential war production. airfields and the like. The blackout will cover a number of midwestern states, comprising about one-fourth of the total area of continental United States.

Pvt. John T. Stoner, 20, son of Mrs. Grace M. Stoner, Fairfax, completed nine weeks of advanced infantry training Nov. 3 at Ft. McClellan, Ala. The course, which simulates Vietnam conditions, includes training in such subjects as land navigation, communications, patrolling, guerrilla and survival techniques plus qualification with infantry weapons.
Pvt. Steven Grossman graduated Oct. 19 from basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood where he will be in Advanced Infantry Training.

Outstanding academic performance by 19 Peru State College students has resulted in their induction into the national honor society Alpha Chi. Only the top 10 percent of Peru State’s junior and senior class members are eligible for membership in Alpha Chi. Character and good reputation are other factors in the selection process, noted chapter sponsor Dr. David Edris of PSC. Among the members inducted during ceremonies held this past Sunday, November 15, on the Peru State campus was Lori Shaw, junior business administration and management major and the wife of Rick Shaw of Rock Port, Mo., and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin White of Nemaha.
