“I’ll Be Home For Christmas” is the theme for Oregon’s 28th annual Christmas Around the Square.  The theme is appropriate since the date is December 7, also known as Pearl Harbor Day.  In commeration of this day, flags will be flown around the courthouse square.

The TJ Hall Building will be the site of several activities beginning at 9 a.m. with vendors set up. Also at that same time the Adelpha Club will be having the very popular cookie walk across the square at the American Legion Building.  They will be there until all cookies are sold.  The Holt County Museum and Research Center will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 6:30 p.m. with a special Christmas stocking display.

The Oregon Public Library will be serving hot chocolate from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.  At 11 a.m. the Community Action Committee will be serving lunch. This year lunch will be potato soup or chili, half sandwich, relish, cookies and drink for $8.

Around noon South Holt Carolers will entertain at the TJ Hall Building and around the square.
Immediately after school, children will be treated to free pop and pizza at the King & Proud Roadhouse courtesy of the Chamberlain family.  From 4 to 5:30 p.m. children can decorate Christmas stockings at the American Legion Building.  The stockings will be put on display in  Scroggins Hardware window.
At 4:30 p.m. Santa comes to town by way of a firetruck.  Weather permitting Santa will set up on the courtyard stage.  If it is too cold, Santa will be at the firehouse.  Lemongrass and Sassafras will be taking pictures of children with Santa.

Surrey rides around the square sponsored by OFM will begin at 4:30  and end at 6:30.  Riders should meet outside the TJ Hall Building.  Also at 4:30 p.m. the ACE group will begin serving their usual, delicious pulled pork meal.
To complete the evening, the Christian Church will host Candles & Carols.
Christmas Around the Square is coordinated by the Community Action Committee.  If you would like to get involved, contact Billie Banks or Kelly Kurtz.
