The Tarkio/Westboro/Fairfax Food Pantry Board met Monday, November 13, 2017, with eight members present. Churches represented at the meeting were Tarkio Christian, Tarkio Presbyerian, Fairfax Presbyterian, Fairfax Baptist, St. John’s Lutheran and Westboro Methodist. In September, 98 individuals representing 51 families were served. In October, 101 individuals representing 53 families were assisted.
In the month of December, coupons for hams will be distributed according to the size of the families. One to five members will receive a coupon for a half of a ham. For families with six or more a coupon for a whole ham will be given. Clients must take the coupons to the Tarkio Hy Vee to be redeemed.
Clients are reminded that recertification paperwork must be completed and on file by January 1, 2018. Necessary paperwork may be obtained from Community Services.
The opening dates for the Food Pantry will be earlier in the month of December. The pantry will be open Tuesdays, December 12 and 19, and Thursdays, December 14 and 21, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. On Tuesday evening, December 11, the pantry will be open from 7 to 8 p.m. The inclement weather policy is that if schools are closed due to inclement weather, the food pantry will also be closed. Clients are also reminded that the food pantry does not open earlier than the hours posted.
The food pantry board members will be responsible for opening the food pantry during December. The next board meeting will be January 9, 2018. For more information, any church may be contacted and questions will be directed to the correct individual. The food pantry is located at 415 Main St., Tarkio. The food pantry always appreciates any and all donations. Right now the pantry could use soups, crackers, cereals, laundry soap, and toilet paper.
