The students toured the Physical Therapy Department, (above left), Radiology, (above right), and the Emergency Room. In the Emergency Room,(top left and right), the students were able to see a mock car accident victim come in and were able to learn how to intubate a patient and perform chest compressions.

Community Hospital-Fairfax sponsored a career day for Atchison County 8th Graders on Friday, December 1, 2017. Approximately 57 8th Graders from Tarkio, Fairfax and Rock Port attended. Students learned about non-clinical careers by playing a “Who Am I” game with hospital staff. Then Aron Burke M.D., Chief Medical Officer, demonstrated the many different types of jobs needed in a hospital to take care of a patient. He also spoke about his career path to rural family medicine. The students were then divided into sections to visit Rehabilitation Services, Laboratory Services, Imaging and the Emergency Room where they experienced hands on learning about clinical pathways in healthcare. One of the highlights of the day was a mock code which was performed by hospital staff in partnership with the Atchison-Holt Ambulance District.
