The December 5, 2017, regular meeting of the William White Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met for a luncheon at the Rock Port United Methodist Church, served by the United Methodist Women’s Unit, with seven members and 15 guests present.  A prayer before lunch was given by Chaplain Karen Fischer.  Hostesses for the meeting were Janet Watkins and Ruth Rother.
The Good Citizen Essay Contest winner was recognized at this meeting.  Tacy Mitchell of Fairfax was chosen the winner of the contest and was presented with a $200 cash award, certificate and an American Flag.  The other participants were: Melissa Lang of Tarkio, Madeline Prussman of Oregon, Deanna Clayton of Craig, Allyson Demott of Rock Port, and Alexander T. Carver of Mound City. Each of the participants were given a certificate and an American Flag.
The meeting was called to order by Regent Annamarie Hunziger.  The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America was recited and the National Anthem was sung by all.  An opening prayer was given by Chaplain Fischer.  The DAR Ritual was led by Regent Hunziger, reciting the American’s Creed, Preamble of Allegiance to the State of Missouri and Preamble to the Constitution of the United States of America.
The devotional, “The Meaning of Christmas,” was read by Karen Fischer.
Annamarie read an article titled, “Who is Margaret Corbin?”  She was a soldier’s wife who was born November 12, 1751, in Franklin County, Pennsylvania.  She was buried at West Point, but after doing some repair work, her body was not there. No one knows where her body actually is.  All other special minutes were given.
The minutes of the November 7 meeting were reviewed.  The treasurer’s report was given.
Annamarie reported that member Joan Lehmar had passed away on November 28, 2017.  She was 85 years old and was from Forest City.
Delegates and alternate were selected to attend the Annual Conference in Kansas City in April 2018.
It was determined to send $50 to the Cameron’s Veterans Home for their Christmas gift.
The next meeting will be held in February 2018 at the Mound City Nutrition Site.
