Easley retires after 23 years as school nurse- Karen Easley has been the Rock Port R-II school nurse for 23 years. Over the years it has become evident how much Mrs. Easley means to the students and staff by the positive impact she has had on their lives. Compassionate, caring and dedicated are all words that perfectly sum up the character of Karen Easley and have made her a principle asset to this school and community. When asked about Karen and her departure from the school district, a fellow staff member said, “Karen Easley has been our school nurse for 23 years, so I’ve known her for a long time. She has been more than a nurse; she’s been a counselor, a friend, and definitely become family. I don’t know if she realizes how many lives she affects in one day or one week, but in 23 years her contributions to our students, our teachers and our community are immeasurable.” Karen’s favorite part of her job was being able to help the students and all of the hugs and smiles she has received throughout the years. She will primarily miss seeing all of the students and staff members that have become such a big part of her life.
Rock Port Elementary hires new principal for 2016- Steve Waigand has been hired for the 2016-17 school year as the new Rock Port Elementary Principal. Mr. Waigand is currently the Assistant Principal at Minnie Cline Elementary Savannah R-3 School District. Mr. Waigand is married to Tabitha and they have two sons, Kipton- three years old and Beau- 8 months old. Mr. Waigand said in a statement “I am very excited for the opportunity to lead and learn from a great elementary staff and connect with students, parents, and community members. I was impressed by the family atmosphere of the school and strong community support. Mrs. Evans and the elementary staff have some really good things going; I am blessed to be walking into such a good position.”
FC Food Country under new ownership- FC Food Country was recently introduced to its new owners; Topher Vorhies, Chad Winters, Roger (Roy) Toy and Rob Toy who are not only driven, but well-experienced men in the grocery store business as well. Just recently these men were informed that their butcher block meat department in the Leon’s store was notified that it has, once again, been awarded the Best of Lincoln. These four men have now received this recognition, that is voted on by the people, over ten times.
The Quilters Boutique Two Year Anniversary Celebration- In just two short years, the little quilt shop that welcomes traffic into Rock Port, Missouri, on Hwy. 136 has grown, not just in yards of fabric, but also in the number of people who can now call themselves “quilters.” Thanks to owners Judy Laflin and Tami Lansdown’s commitment.
On the Move Atchison County Mail office construction relocation- The office of the Atchison County Mail will be changing locations. We are moving to the old State Farm office located at 321 S. Main next door the Oswald Crow Agency and W.C. Farmer Photography. The AC Mail office building is in much need of repair and Mike and I feel it will be much easier to make the needed improvements to the building without having to live there while we work.
