• Representatives from Heartland Educational Institute and Tarkio College recently returned from three days of intensive meetings in Washington, D.C. The delegation from Tarkio met and talked with representatives from the United States Departments of Education, Labor, and Justice. Meetings were also held with Youth Services International, Inc., and Missouri’s Congressional delegation.
• The Kansas City Royals Goodwill Caravan, featuring pitchers, Rusty Meacham, Mike Magnante, and new shortstop Greg Gagne, will stop in Tarkio for an autograph session on Wednesday, January 13, 1993, from 5-6 p.m. at a location to be announced later.
January 4, 1968
• Temperatures this past week were never above the freezing mark. High for the week was recorded on the 29th with 31 degrees and the low was a frigid minus 11 on the 31st.
• Lori Denise is the name chosen for the baby daughter born Christmas Eve to Mr. and Mrs. Ned Seymour of Tarkio. The baby, born December 24, weighed six pounds and 13 1/2 ounces.
January 8, 1943
• In the past year, 7,875 books were circulated to patrons at the Tarkio Library. A total of 4,165 were fictional, 2,259 were juvenile, and 1,451 were nonfiction.
• Farmer City Happenings: A turkey dinner in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Broermann, who were recently married, was given by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Broermann at their home on Sunday. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Don Broermann, Mr. and Mrs. William Vette, Mr. and Mrs. George Vette and son, Adolph, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Vette and family, the Reverend and Mrs. F.W. Nolte and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Alexander and family.
