The election for the 1993 Fire Department officials was held. They are as follow: Fire Chief David Portis, Assistant Chief Bob Erwin, Assistant Chief Roger Southard, Treasurer Dennis Athen, Secretary Brian Curry, and President David Sly.
Over the Backfence by Nancy Gaines: “A new year and a new beginning. We had a glaze greet us, and we don’t mean glazed donuts either. Old Man Winter gave us sleet and rain, which caused a glaze on everything slowing down activities. I did not get the outside Christmas decorations taken down, but when it warms up I can do it. I did not make any New Year’s resolutions either, still have some from past years I never kept.”

The Fairfax High School students will appear on “Let’s Dance” TV program over KFEQ-TV, Channel 2, Saturday, January 6. The program will be seen at 12 noon.
The first meeting of the new year for the Kiwanis Club of Fairfax was highlighted by a visit from Lieut.-Gov. Jack Arnold, District Two, from Trenton, President Dale Wake’s successful year at the helm of the club was acknowledged by Lieut.-Gov. Arnold and he was presented the past president’s lapel button. Reid Swindler was installed as president, Norman Herndon as fist vice president and Champ Breeden as second vice president.

President Roosevelt has designated January 12 as National Farm Mobilization Day. On that day, farmers all over the nation will meet to discuss problems which we will have to meet if we produce enough food for ourselves and our allies. Here in Atchison County, there will be five meetings at the following places: Westboro City Hall, Tarkio City Hall, Fairfax Theatre, Rock Port Courthouse, and Watson Opera House.
John Sly has purchased the R.L. Hindman farm of 120 acres, three and one-half miles northeast of Fairfax. Mr. and Mrs. Hindman will move to Fairfax on March 1 to make their home. They have purchased the Earl Whitford property in the south part of town.
