Carolyn (Gaffney) Kent, 84, Mound City, Missouri, passed away on December 31, 2017.
Carolyn was born on August 27, 1933, at the home of her grandparents, Hattie and Tom Nauman in Craig, Missouri to Benson and Lucille (Nauman) Gaffney.
On December 24, 1951, she married Gene Kent. Carolyn and Gene worked on the family farm, before his passing in 1984.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Mary Kent; son-in-law, Kent Thompson.
Carolyn was a parent, homemaker and continued work on the family farm with her son and grandsons.
Carolyn was a member of the Pleasant View Presbyterian Church, Mound City. In 1972, she was a founding member of the Holt County Missouri Historical Society and continued to be a valuable asset to many seeking an oral history of the area. Carolyn also co-authored four books on the history of Craig entitled Craig- Town, County, Country.
Survivors include: son, Tom Kent, Mound City; daughter-in-law, Pam Kent, Craig; two daughters, Rosann Thompson and Rita (Doug) Linhart, Cameron, Missouri; six grandchildren, Shaun (Janah) Kent, Mound City and Travis (Darcy) Kent, Craig, Brian (Abbey) Thompson, Blair Thompson, Mary (Scott) Flanders and Abigail Linhart, all of Cameron; eight great-grandchildren, Hattie and Grant Kent, Colbie and Maylie Kent, Bailey, Reagan and Lincoln Thompson and Avery June Flanders; Teresa Wright-Fowler, who was like a daughter to Carolyn; friend and caregiver, Lu Jackson.
Services were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 5, 2018, at Craig Presbyterian Church. Burial was in New Liberty Cemetery, Craig.
