• Making no-till work was the theme of the day at the Community Building in Tarkio on Thursday, January 7. Bob Chapple, Atchison County Program Director, explained to a large group of farmers that this meeting was to get at the practical “nuts and bolts” of making no-till work.
• Danny McCoy of Tarkio purchased the first “Elvis” stamp at the Tarkio Post Office on Friday, January 8. There were 1,950 stamps sold that day and 400 special cancellations. Postmaster Dave Wynn reported that several customers put the stamps on envelopes or new dollar bills and had them stamped with the special cancellation.

• Recipients of the outstanding performers trophies for the 1967 football season at Tarkio College are Ken McDonald, Magnolia, Iowa, Steve Shields, Birmingham, Alabama, Charlie Wilson, Yonkers, New York, Tarkio College Head Football Coach Robert Lade, Phil Homeratha, Enid, Oklahoma, Tom Devlin, W. Sayville, New York, and Walt Kyzima, Woodridge, New Jersey.
• Mrs. Gelvin Stevenson, a member of a family long prominent in Tarkio banking circles, has been elected a director of the Farmers and Valley Bank of Tarkio. She is the second woman to hold a director’s post at the bank as Mrs. Mary M. Stevenson was elected to the board last year.
January 15, 1943
• Twenty-seven friends and neighbors of Mrs. Emma Staashelm met at the Staashelm farm northwest of Tarkio Wednesday and from one o’clock until dusk picked and cribbed ten acres of corn. The ten acre patch was all that remained unpicked at the time Mr. Staashelm was stricken with a fatal illness December 16.
• Tonight at 8 o’clock in the chapel of David Rankin Hall, Miss Veva Ballengee and Arthur L. Lindstrom, members of the Tarkio College music faculty, will present a duo-piano recital. Selections include music by Bach, Beethoven, Arensky, Debussy, and Chasins.
