A change of at least 81 degrees in temperature was experienced in this section from last Friday to Tuesday morning. On Friday the thermometer went up to 61, while on Tuesday morning readings were as low as 20 below zero. Friday’s temperature, according to records at the St. Joseph weather bureau, lacked but one degree of reaching the highest recording on January 15 since that bureau was established.
The Rock Port post office has a new clerk in the person of A. T. (Aud) Sanders, who got his initiation Sunday morning and has since been busy trying to locate the various box holders’ names as he scatters letters, newspapers and circulars. Postmaster Henry F. Stapel and his other helpers have been badly handicapped by lack of help since Elmer Andermann, chief clerk, was inducted into the army.

T. R. Windes 61, Lamar, has been employed as superintendent by the board of education of the Rock Port R-II school system replacing E. R. Dalrymple. Windes has a masters degree from the University of Wyoming, Laramie, bachelor degree from Southwest Missouri State College, Springfield and has been working toward his doctorate with graduate work at the University of Denver and University of Colorado. He graduated from the Greenfield, Missouri, high school. Before becoming a superintendent of schools at Lamar in 1940, he was high school principal at Golden City for three years.

Christmas Ball was held the evening of December 19. Jill Block was crowned as queen by Clay Vogler, last year’s king. Jill is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Durham and Russell Block. She has been active in FFA, Student Council, Flag Corps, Band, cheerleading, R-Club, Spirit Club, track, volleyball and is currently the Senior class vice-president. Ben Dean was crowned king by Amy Cottrell, last year’s queen. Ben is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dean. Ben has participated in football, wrestling, golf, Quiz Bowl and Boys State.
