It was Eric Bradfield’s night Friday when he led the Bulldogs to victory over Tarkio and then was crowned homecoming basketball king by his classmates. He scored 29 points in the win. Amy Slaughter was crowned queen.
This week begins another year at the same location on the same corner in the same building. Hunter’s is celebrating their 80th birthday. In February 1913 W.S. Walker, H.S. Rhoades, and B.P. Hunter purchased the Fairfax Mercantile Co. They had an objective to give fair and courteous treatment to all. They carried an up-to-date line of shoes, dry goods, gents’ furnishings, and a fresh supply of groceries.
February 1, 1968
Don Davis of Tarkio, Harold Peregrine of Rock Port, and Ernie King of Fairfax were guests of Farmland Industries over the weekend on a trip to Galveston, Texas. The men made the trip by plane and during their stay went on a deep-sea fishing expedition. The trip was the result of a fertilizer sales contest for cooperatives in the Farmland set-up.
Mrs. Earle E. Sims entertained members of the F.A.B. club at her home Friday afternoon. Bridge was played at two tables after dessert and coffee were served. Mrs. Mary Warnstaff held high score, Mrs. Jake Moore, low, and Mrs. Moran Wright received the traveling prize.

A deal was closed last week by which Asa Schooler sold his general store at Corning to Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Peters of Corning, who will operate the store under the name of H.A. Peters & Co. Mr. Schooler has operated the store since October of 1912. Mr. Peters was employed at the store at the time the business started and helped unpack the first shipment of merchandise.
Anyone gainfully employed or doing volunteer war work can qualify for a certificate to buy a bicycle. Bicycles are also available to pupils who need them to get to and from school.
