• Westboro R-IV students Adam Laur, John Stockstilll, and Somer McNaughton received bonuses for selling enough food items in the Red Wheel Fundraiser. The fundraiser made a profit of $968 which will go to buy a computer printer for the fifth and sixth grade room and maybe a sound machine for the music room.
• Morning Sun Seed, located in Westboro, Missouri, sponsored a Fish Fry to show appreciation to its customers at the American Legion Building in Tarkio on Wednesday, February 3. A large crowd turned out for the appreciation event.
February 8, 1968
• Governor Warren E. Hearnes will be the featured speaker for the Tarkio Community Betterment Awards Banquet. The annual event will be held this year in Eppley Lounge at Tarkio College February 13 at 7 p.m.
• High temperature for the past week was 55 degrees recorded on February 3. Low temperature was 22 degrees on February 2.
February 12, 1943
• Since the pump was started on the Jim Cook oil well Wednesday of last week production has grown from approximately 18 barrels in the first twenty-four hours to 26 Monday, and a 6-hour test taken yesterday showed the yield was approximately 30 barrels.
• Miss Maxine Harris has received a commission as second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse corps and will report for duty at Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, February 23. Lieut. Harris, first Atchison Countian enrolled to be accepted in the Red Cross war time nursing service was graduated October 17, 1942, from the Missouri Methodist Nursing school in St. Joseph.
• Appearing in the “Twenty-five Years Ago” column in this issue is an interesting brevity that reads “Earle S. Coe journeyed to Omaha the fore part of this week to enlist in the Marine Air Corps.” Exactly twenty-five years later (to the day) the late Earle S. Coe’s son, Ryland, 17 years old, enlisted in the Naval Air Reserve, V-5. He begins training after graduation from high school, leading to a commission as flying officer in the Marine Corps or Naval Reserve.
