A fire ripped through a home in Tarkio early Saturday morning, February 17, 2018, completely destroying the structure at 1005 Maple Street and displacing its resident, Dave Frushon. The call went out at 2:13 a.m. The Tarkio Fire Department, Tarkio Police Department, Atchison County Sheriff’s Department, and Atchison-Holt Ambulance District responded.
Frushon was asleep when the fire began and woke up to smoke and flames. He was able to make it out of the house, but suffered burns. He was transported by Atchison-Holt Ambulance to Community Hospital-Fairfax for the treatment of his injuries and has since been released. The fire department battled the blaze into the afternoon hours on Saturday, and were on the scene for over 13 hours. The cause of the fire is unknown.
Though Dave made it out alive, the whereabouts of his dog, a pug, Macy, are not known. Please keep an eye out for a black-faced, brown pug. Because Dave had only enough time to escape the blaze, but not enough time to grab anything, he is in need of items to start over. He wears long and short sleeve shirts and sweatshirts size 3X, jeans size 44×30, sweatpants and shorts size 2X, jacket and coats size 3X and shoe size 14. He will also need household items. Contact Sharon Jones at 660-736-5803 for a complete list of what is needed and where to deliver it.  Monetary donations can be made at US Bank in Tarkio or drop off at 409 Pine, Tarkio.
