Missouri Beef Packers plant at Rock Port is in its 16th day of shutdown as a result of a majority of production employees walking off their shift January 31 when the “chain speed” was increased to 175 per hour. Some employees complained that the management had signed an agreement a year ago whereby the speed would not exceed 165 per hour, however a copy of that statement made by the management at that time shows that the company did not agree, but intended to increase above the 165 with an added manpower provision. The union voted to go back to work under the original contract at a meeting held in Rock Port last Friday and the company was notified Saturday of their decision. The company has made no decision on the union’s proposal.
