The Blue Jay Scholar Bowl team began its 2018 season at the Northwest Invitational Academic Tournament hosted by North Andrew on February 17. The varsity went 5-0 in the morning pool play earning a spot in the top eight teams and advanced to the afternoon tournament. The Blue Jays beat Maryville in overtime in the first round, but fell to Mound City and Polo to end with a 4th place finish out of the 16 teams. Point totals for the Blue Jay varsity were Captain Mercer Deatz – 150, Ethan Lucas – 120, Ayden Wilroy – 110, Ally Demott – 100, and Josie Watkins as the substitute. The next match will be held at South Nodaway on March 1. The Junior Varsity A and B teams also competed in the JV tournament. The JV 1 team went 3-2 in pool play to advance to the tournament. They fell to Savannah in the first round of the tournament 220-260. Points scored were Captain Ben Lucas – 130, Riley Vogler – 100, Fischer Tharp – 30, Darius Skillen – 20, and Zach Clauson – 10. The JV 2 team did not qualify for the afternoon tournament. Points scored were Captain Kaycee Davis – 20, Payton Schomburg – 30, Alaric Laing – 20, Katie Lininger – 10, and Cody Davis and Scarlett Kish as substitutes.
