Thomas Paul Edward “Tom” Hughes, Sr., the son of Wilbur and Grace (Moore) Hughes, was born December 10, 1939, in Fairfax, Missouri. Tom attended Star country school in Holt County. In 1957, Tom entered the United States Army and proudly served his country.
In 1959, Tom was united in marriage to Judy Jackson. They became the parents of two children, Dana and Thomas Paul Edward Hughes, Jr. They later divorced. In 1972, Tom was united in marriage to Joyce Shandy. Tom helped raise Joyce’s two daughters, Ria and Laura. They later divorced. In 2014, Tom was united in marriage to Bonnie Hughes and they made their home in Rock Port, Missouri, to the present time.
Tom was employed as an over-the-road truck driver for Keim Trucking, Sabetha, Kansas. In 1980, Tom owned and operated Tom’s Truck & Auto Repair in Rock Port. He also worked for Marvin Leseberg on the farm and managed an apartment complex in Desert Palms, California. Tom passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at his home in Rock Port.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by sister, Josephine Keever. Survivors include wife, Bonnie Hughes, Rock Port; daughter, Dana Thompson and husband, James; son, Paul Hughes, Jr., all of Rock Port; stepdaughters, Ria Kimmes and husband, Michael, Grass Valley, California, and Laura Harris and husband, Mark, Palm Springs, California; five grandchildren, Jayme (Justin Sommers) Thompson, Crystal Allison and husband, Steve, Tricia, Shiri and David Harris; two great-grandchildren, Thomas and Natalie Allison; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside memorial service and inurnment were held Monday, February 26, 2018, at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Craig, Missouri, conducted by Pastor Mike Christian. Military rites were performed by the United States Army National Guard.
