Nancy C. VanGundy, 84, passed away March 6, 2018, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Rock Port, Missouri.
She was born November 22, 1933, to John and Amanda (Henderson) Oswald, on the farm west of Fairfax, Missouri. She was the youngest  of 11 children.
Nancy attended Irish Grove School and Fairfax High School, graduating with the class of 1951. On December 30,1951, Nancy was united in marriage to Bill VanGundy and they made their home on a  farm south of Fairfax.
Nancy was a farm wife and mother and she also enjoyed gardening. She was a member of the Fairfax United Methodist Church and had also belonged to the United Methodist Women’s Society (W.S.C.S.), Atchison County Women’s Democrat Club, Community Hospital Auxiliary, Fairfax Sorosis, and the Pinochle Club.
Nancy and Bill moved into the town of Fairfax in 1977 and have lived there since then. Bill passed away October 15, 2016. Nancy was also preceded in death by her parents and by siblings: Jenita, Lewis, Jennie, John H., James K., Maurice, Margery, Donald, and Robert Ross.
She is survived by her daughter, Bridget and husband Don Wennihan of Craig, Missouri; her son, Bruce VanGundy of Fairfax; her sister, Betty Elder of Mound City; grandchildren: Trisha and husband Jamie Quimby of Tarkio, Benjamin Simmons of Fairfax, Jessica and Emily VanGundy, both of Kansas City, Missouri; and great-grandchildren, Kaleigh Quimby, Lauren Quimby, and Blake Simmons.
Graveside service and inurnment were held Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax. Services were under the direction of Schooler Funeral Home, Fairfax.
