On Saturday March 10, 2018, one advisor and six members of the Rock Port FCCLA Chapter traveled to Tan-Tar-A Resort at the Lake of the Ozarks for the State FCCLA Conference. At the conference members attended the opening session where they heard a very inspiring and empowering message from The “Amazing” Tei Street. Members also had the opportunity to attend various skill enhancing workshops. Attendees Catyn Chamberlain, Ashley Christian, and Darius Skillen worked as student evaluators and room consultants for various STAR event competitions. Beth Davis represented Rock Port as a voting delegate and went through Regional Officer training.
Members Beth Davis, Hannah Miller, and Kelcie Gaines also competed in the Chapter Year Review STAR event. STAR events are competitive events where students compete first at the regional level then can advance to state, then nationals. The three girls received gold at regional competition, which qualified them for state. The trio completed a portfolio and oral presentation over the chapter’s year based on the theme “Taking Flight with FCCLA.” The group received gold at state and will represent Missouri at the National Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 30, 2018.
