On Thursday, March 22, 2018, the Rock Port winter athletic banquet was held at 6 p.m. in the multipurpose room of Rock Port Schools. Mr. Ethan Sickels, Rock Port High School Principal, welcomed everyone and introduced Darius Skillen to give the invocation. Dinner was served followed by athlete introductions beginning with high school basketball cheerleader sponsor, Mrs. Chris Sticken. Next up was Blue Jay dance sponsor Mrs. Kathy Ungles introducing the 2017-18 dance squad.
Mr. Jim Skillen stepped up to the microphone as the Lady Jays’ basketball coach. He recognized the following post season honors: Kelcie Gaines was named to the Class 1, All-District 16 1st Team, the 275 All-Conference 1st Team and she was a MSSA Northwest All-District basketball selection, Catyn Chamberlain made the 275 All-Conference Honorable Mention Team. Mr. Gary (Pony) Davis assisted with the girls’ basketball program this season. The team went 13-11 Following Mr. Skillen was Mr. Shawn Shineman as he introduced the boys’ basketball team. He recognized Caden Linthicum for being named to the Class 1, All-District 16 1st Team and the 275 All-Conference 1st Team and he was a MSSA Northwest All-District basketball selection, Alex Burke made the 275 All-Conference 2nd Team and All-District 16 1st Team, the 275 All-Conference 2nd Team and Evan Elam made the 275 All-Conference Honorable Mention Team. Mr. Shineman was assisted this season by Mr. Ethan Sickels. The team went 15-8 for the season.
The high school wrestlers were introduced by Coach Chris Gebhards. He was assisted this year by Mr. Steve Proctor. The Clay Ellison Award went to Gabe Abbott, The MVP Award and team captain was Ethan Wood.
