Spring is upon us and the Brownville Historical Society announces the opening of the museums in Brownville, Nebraska, for the 2018 season. Opening weekend is April 21 and 22 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. The Sage Memorial Museum will be opened Friday-Sunday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. The society will also open the Didier Cabin and Land Office in self-guided tours. One can visit the Heritage Tree in Boettner Park during the day hours. The Bailey House, the Brown/Carson House, and the Railroad History Center Museum will be open each Saturday and Sunday. Liz Bingham, Donna Shepherd and Paula Robbins will be present to greet visitors, along with other volunteers.
These museums house late 1800’s and early 1900’s furniture, memorabilia, and artifacts of this period of history. Recently the Carson family sent historic documents from Asheville, North Carolina, for future viewing. The Wheel Museum and Dr. Spurgin’s Dental Office are closed for restoration. Hopefully, the main floor of the Wheel Museum and Dr. Spurgin’s Office will be preserved by this fall.
The Society is planning an Open House of the Wheel Museum October 13, 2018, with a special program at 9:00 a.m. That weekend is the Civil War re-enactors’ event, among other activities.
This year’s Brownville special events will also include the 62nd Spring Flea Market on Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, May 26-28.
