Byron B. Walter, age 88 of St. Charles, Illinois, died April 21, 2018. He was born June 3, 1929, in St. Joseph, Missouri, and was raised on a farm in Rock Port, Missouri.
He graduated from the University of Missouri with a B.S. in Agriculture in 1951. After graduation he entered the U.S. Army Military Intelligence and served during the Korean War. When returning from the war he began his career working for Swift & Co. Mr. Walter worked for the company for over 35 years. Before his retirement he was General Manager of the St. Charles and Omaha division of Swift.
He was a member of the A.F. & A.M. Masonic Temple North Star Lodge #157 in Rock Port, and the American Legion Post #342 in St. Charles. He also served as First Vice Commander of the American Legion Post in Ralston, Nebraska.
He is survived by his wife Elaine, four children: Michelle Kroll (Sam Zarilla) of Houston, Texas, Michael J. (Laura) Walter of Raleigh, North Carolina, Candace (Richard) Franco of Kilmarnock, Virginia, and David (Evelyn) Sheward of Thornville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren: Katherine Kroll (Alex) Chancia, Amanda Kroll (Blake) Elmer, John Walter, Sean Luby, Jason Ruppert, Ryan Ruppert, Bradley Ruppert, Matthew Ruppert, Christina Sheward (Jeff) Bartolomucci, and Deanna Sheward; seven great-grandchildren; and son-in-law Joe Luby.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Beth Luby, grandson James Sheward, and his parents Virgil and Ola Walter.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 E. Main Street, St. Charles. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. at Yurs Funeral Home in St. Charles. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, St. Charles.
