The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and Atchison County Sheriff’s office will hold a Fish with a Cop Clinic on Saturday, May 12. This will be a few hours of fun in the sun for kids and a parent. Scott Melvin has volunteered to provide kids a place to fish for a day.
The event will be open to 25 kids age 15 and under. Kids 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. MDC will provide fishing equipment and bait. The Atchison County Sheriff’s Office will provide food.
There will be numerous stations where kids will learn how to tie knots, cast a line, and bait a hook. The skills learned will then be used to catch fish. Parents are encouraged to come and help their child participate.
Spots are limited to 25 children and are issued on a first come, first served basis. Contact Conservation Agent Chad Gray to register at 816-383-0404.
This will be a great opportunity to get your child or grandchild out to enjoy natural resources through fishing. Fishing is a gateway activity for many into hunting, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors in general. A flyer will be placed into county schools with more details regarding the clinic.
