The regular meeting of the Tarkio R-I Board of Education was held April 19, 2018, in the board meeting room of Tarkio R-I Schools. The meeting was called to order by President Jeff Meyer at 7:00 p.m. with the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance by all in attendance. Board members present were Chris Yates, Steve Klute, Jamie Barnett, Sam Hannah, Garrett Wood, Lydia Hurst, and board secretary, Diane Hicks. Others present included Tarkio R-I Special Education Director Kari Taylor, Tarkio Elementary Principal Dr. Deborah Taylor, Tarkio R_I Superintendent Karma Coleman, Tarkio High School Principal Carrie Livengood, Markie Sundermann, Deyton Thomson, Blu Dow, Brooke Walton, Laura Forehand, Dallas Prather, Jennifer Peregrine, Jax Peregrine, Shannon Bruns, Jules Perez, Jayne Martin, Cindy Rolf, Duke Snider, Ryan Becker, Braylyn Wood, and Annalee Livengood.
The meeting minutes from March 15, 2018, were approved. The board approved the transfer of incidental funds to special revenue to pay certificated salaries. The board voted to amend and approve the consent agenda with approving the April 11, 2018, board minutes. District obligations were approved. Steve moved and Jamie seconded to approve the purchase orders without dollar amounts for the cash distribution to the seniors for their trip and an elementary trip for a reading incentive party. The motion carried 7-0.
Brooke Walton and Laura Forehand accompanied three students representing the 2nd grade giving a short report on their work on Famous Americans. Jax and Jayden reported on Charles Drew, Annalee and Axel reported on Amelia Earhart, and Braylyn and Camden reported on Sitting Bull.
Mrs. Coleman requested approval for the overnight trip for state music. The board approved.
Blu Dow with the CTA spoke about the STEM Night that was recently held. A total of 20 families and 84 people attended the fun-filled, interactive event.
Duke Snider and Ryan Becker shared a video of some of the plumbing that will need to be replaced. CTS delivered rough draft blue prints. Complete blue prints are expected in the upcoming weeks.
Dr. Taylor reported that the elementary enrollment total is 174. This year currently pre-school has an enrollment of 20. Dr. Taylor congratulation Ms. Taylor and the mathlete students.
Carrie Livengood reported 144 students was the reported enrollment number of the high school and attendance is at 96%.
Kari Taylor reported that all the paras were recognized for Para Appreciation Week.
Lydia moved and Jamie seconded to approve the 3 year phone service contract with Midwest Data. The motion carried.
Steve moved and Jamie seconded to approve the visual impairment contract. The motion carried.
Steve moved and Jamie seconded to approve the contract for the social worker. The motion carried.
Steve moved and Jamie seconded to approve the retirement of Janene McEnaney as school nurse. The motion carried 7-0.
Steve moved and Jamie seconded the resignation of Shirley Flack as crossing guard. The motion carried.
Steve moved and Jamie seconded to approve the hiring of Courtney Harms as Speech Pathologist. The motion carried 7-0.
Steve moved and Jamie seconded the hiring of Jennifer Peregrine for classroom instruction. The motion carried 7-0.
Steve moved and Jamie seconded the bid received from Pat Athen to install carpeting in the pod. The motion carried 7-0.
The meeting moved into closed session at 8:16 p.m. The meeting came out of closed session at 9:00 p.m.
Steve moved and Lydia seconded to approve the hiring of the support staff as presented. The motion carried.
Steve moved and Lydia seconded to hire the bus drivers as presented. The motion carried.
Steve moved and Lydia seconded to hire Julie Barnett for bus driving. The motion carried 6-1-0 (Jamie abstained).
Steve moved and Sam seconded to approve coaching assignments. The motion carried.
