WHEREAS, national days of prayer are an American tradition, the first having been proclaimed by the Continental Congress in 1775; and
WHEREAS, the first Thursday in May each year has been set aside as National Day of Prayer by the United States Congress; and
WHEREAS, the National Day of Prayer is an opportunity for Americans of all faiths to join together in united prayer to glorify God, to acknowledge our dependence on Him, to give thanks for blessings received, to repent and ask forgiveness on our personal and national behalf, to ask God to guide our leaders and bring wholeness to the United States and her citizens; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to acknowledge and seek God by observing National Day of Prayer in Rock Port, Missouri when all may praise God, humble ourselves before Him, express gratitude for our blessings and declare our need and desire for God’s mighty hand to guide, direct, and heal our City and Nation; and
WHEREAS, the 2018 theme, “Pray for America – Unity” and is based on the verse from Ephesians 4:3 which states: “Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”
NOW THEREFORE, I Chris Chamberlain, Mayor of the City of Rock Port, Missouri do hereby proclaim Thursday, May 3, 2018 as National Day of Prayer.
