The Brownville Fourth of July committee has been meeting to plan festivities for the day in this historical, Preserve America town. The committee has decided to honor Vietnam War veterans during this 50th year of the commemoration of the Tet Offensive. Vietnam veterans with links to Nemaha County are invited to ride in the parade. Contact parade chairpersons Steve and Marilyn Woerth at 402-274-5722 or mwoerth@gmail.com if you would like to participate. Seats may be limited.
Also, don’t forget to get your kiddos involved with the parade. The Patriotic Bike Contest with all winners is a yearly favorite. A prize will be awarded to every entry, one per entry. To enter, contact the above chairperson.
Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R) Otoe Chapter have been a yearly participant in the Freedom Celebration parade. Suzanne Jarman, the newly-elected D.A.R. Nebraska State Regent, an associate member of the Otoe Chapter, will be the keynote speaker at the patriotic program in Boettner Park after the parade. Ms. Jarman, in her own terms, is a ‘military brat’ whose father and husband both served during the Vietnam War.
As usual, the afternoon will be full of food, children’s events and music. In the evening, music with Tim Javorsky and fireworks along the Missouri River will be enjoyed by patriotic fans. Watch for more updates as the event draws nearer.
The Fourth of July sponsorship committee is still looking for sponsors to help fund the events throughout the day. If your business or organization would like to have a banner and a chance to be recognized, contact Matt Heskett, chairperson, at Whiskey Creek Run Winery in Brownville, 402-825-4601, or the Woerths at 402-274-5722 before June 1.
