Members of the Tarkio High School Class of 2018 received their diplomas in a commencement ceremony held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2018, in the THS Gym. Fifteen seniors crossed the stage as Tarkio High School graduates, including Hannah Elizabeth Blank, Taylor Alexandra Brown, Shae Alexander DeRosier, Kaleb Austin Horton, Leeann Isabella Hurst, Colin Richard Joesting, Melissa Jo Ann Lang, Tawni Nicole Martin, Jordan Joanne Mattice, Dayton Foster Murry, Madison Lynn Ohrt, Lauren Nicole Quimby, Destiny Christine Sanders, Selena Jean Marie Somerville, and Richard Dale Weidenaar II. This year’s top five seniors were: valedictorian – Shae DeRosier, salutatorian – Colin Joesting, Melissa Lang, Madison Ohrt, and Bella Hurst. Junior escorts were Gage McAdams and Catelyn Prater.
The class song, “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King, was played and the Tarkio High School band performed “Pomp & Circumstance.” Tarkio High School Principal Carrie Livengood led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. Tarkio R-I Superintendent Karma Coleman welcomed all in attendance and introduced Principal Livengood as the guest speaker. A parent dedication slideshow was presented and then the Tarkio High School Chorus sang “For Good” from “Wicked.” Shae DeRosier gave the valedictorian speech, followed by Colin Joesting giving the sa­lutatorian speech. Mrs. Livengood presented the class and Tarkio R-I School Board President Jeff Meyer presented the diplomas. Mrs. Livengood led everyone in the Pledge to the School Flag and the students filed out of the gym to their class song. They then exited the building where they formed a congratulatory line on the east lawn of the high school.
The senior class motto was “Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory” by Dr. Seuss. Class colors were charcoal gray and coral blue. The class flower was yellow daisy. Senior class officers were: President – Lauren Quimby; Vice-President – Dayton Murry; Secretary – Madison Ohrt; Treasurer – Bella Hurst; and Student Council Representatives – Shae DeRosier and Tawni Martin. Senior National Honor Society members included Shae DeRosier, Bella Hurst, Colin Joesting, Melissa Lang, Madison Ohrt, and Lauren Quimby. Class sponsors were Cherie Heits and Aaron Behrens.
