Robert Cass Ewens, 81, of Butler, Missouri, passed away Monday, May 7, 2018, at the Medicalodges of Butler, Missouri. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 15, 2018, 2:00 p.m., at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, Missouri. Burial will follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the chapel. Robert was born January 4, 1937, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Frank Gil and Mary (Manahan) Ewens. He was later adopted by his stepfather, Sam Ewens. He was a retired Methodist minister who pastored many churches across western Missouri. In his early days he enjoyed racing and going to the race track with his daughter Robin. He attended CMSU in Warrensburg, Missouri, and had a master’s degree from St. Paul’s School of Theology in Sociology.
Survivors include: his wife, Shelby Ewens; two grandchildren, Mary Hale and husband Wyatt of Butler, Missouri, and John Gilbert and wife Whitney of Salisbury, Missouri; a great-grandchild, Emilia Gilbert; two sisters-in-laws, Sylvia Eldridge of Butler, Missouri, and Sandra Perusich of Independence, Missouri; and a brother-in-law, Stan Towsley and wife Cindy of Laurie, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Roshell and Robin, and his mother, Mary.
